Simplextrans has extensive experience in delivering energy equipment via rail.
The transportation of transformers, diesel generators, rotors, and starters is a complex logistical task due to the non-standard dimensions and weight of the cargo.

When transporting transformers and diesel generators over long distances, rail transport (sometimes combined with sea transport) is the best option.

How to Transport Transformers and Diesel Generators

  • From Turkey, Europe, the USA, China, or South Korea to CIS countries:
The cargo is first delivered by sea to ports in Georgia, Russia, or the Baltics, where wide-gauge tracks (1520 mm) are available, allowing for reloading of transformers or diesel generators onto rail transport.
  • From Europe and Turkey:
European railcars (transporters, platforms, or open wagons) may be used. The cargo is delivered to wide-gauge (1520 mm) entry stations, such as Chop (Ukraine), Brest (Belarus), Malaszewicze (Poland), or Záhony (Hungary). There, the cargo is transferred from European railcars to wide-gauge (Soviet-type) wagons.
  • By road transport:
Transformers and diesel generators can also be transported by low-bed trailers, standard trucks, or platforms to a 1520 mm wide-gauge entry station, where they are reloaded onto railcars.

Railcars for Transporting Transformers, Diesel Generators, Rotors, and Starters

Depending on the weight and dimensions of the cargo, the following railcars can be used:

  • For lighter and relatively smaller cargo, universal platforms or open wagons can be used.
  • For heavy transformers or diesel generators weighing over 70 tons, transporter wagons are required:
    • 8-axle transporters with a capacity of 120 tons
    • 16-axle transporters with a capacity of up to 220 tons
    • 300-ton, 400-ton, and 500-ton transporters

Price for Transporting Transformers, Diesel Generators, Rotors, and Starters

To calculate the cost of delivering a transformer or diesel generator, please send the following details to our email address: [email protected]:

  • Delivery route
  • Cargo weight
  • Cargo dimensions and a packing list with the sizes and weights of each component. We request a three-view cargo drawing to determine if the cargo is oversized and the degree of its oversize.
  • List of additional services and customer requirements (terminal storage, return of specific spare parts or fastening materials, expedited delivery, etc.).
