Rail and Sea Transportation of Goods to Mongolia

Simplextrans offers rail and sea transportation services for goods to and from Mongolia.

Delivery Solutions for Goods to Mongolia

We offer cargo transportation to/from Mongolia along he following routes:

  • Rail transportation to Mongolia using wagons and containers through the Naushki / Sukhbaatar border crossing. Mongolia operates on the wide Soviet 1520 mm gauge, allowing wagons to proceed to Mongolian railway stations without requiring axle changes or transshipment.

  • Cargo deliveries from Turkey, the USA, and Europe to Mongolia via the port of Xingang (Tianjin) in China, with further rail transport to Ulaanbaatar, Tolgoit, and other stations. This option offers lower delivery costs but longer transit times (90-100 days). Additionally, there are restrictions on the transit of hazardous goods and food products imposed by China. Goods arrive at Mongolian stations in the same sea containers in which they were initially loaded.

  • Transit rail transport from China to Russia via Mongolia through the Erlian (China) / Zamyn-Uud (Mongolia) crossing point. At Zamyn-Uud station, cargo is transshipped from Chinese wagons to Russian wagons (1520 mm gauge) for further transportation to Russian destinations.

IMPORTANT: As of mid-2024, obtaining transportation approvals from Russian Railways is challenging due to congestion on the eastern railway network. We recommend shippers submit their “mesplan” applications at the start of each month.
