Sugar delivery scheme from Brazil and Europe
In the case of small volumes of sugar transport from Europe (from 60 tons to several hundred tons), or Brazil (from 60 tons to several thousand tons), the cargo is usually delivered to the port of Poti Georgia in 20-foot linear containers.
In the port of Poti, sugar is transshipped from liner 20-foot containers into covered wagons (on average, according to the scheme 3 x 20-foot container in 1 covered wagon 64-68 tons). Further, sugar is transported by rail from Poti to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan via ferry crossings Alyat (Azerbaijan) – Kuryk (Kazakhstan) or Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan)
In case of large volumes of sugar transportation from Europe and Brazil (starting from 10 thousand tons and above), the cargo is delivered to the port of Poti on a dry cargo ship. With the help of port cranes, sugar is discharged from the ship in the port of Poti and transshipped into a covered warehouse, and then into covered wagons. The use of a covered warehouse in the port of Poti is due to the need to quickly discharge and release the vessel in order to avoid demurrage of the vessel in the port of Poti.
Important – in the case of transporting ship shipments of sugar of several thousand tons, the port of Poti only accepts sugar on pallets or big bags. The port does not accept sugar in 50 kg bags, since unloading the vessel can take several weeks, which is unacceptable for both the port and the client.
Sugar warehousing and storage services in the port of Poti
Simplextrans provides warehouse services in the port of Poti for storing sugar arriving from Brazil, Europe and other regions of the world. In some cases, at the request of traders, sugar is stocked in the covered warehouse in the port of Poti (Georgia), where it can be stored for up to several months, awaiting favorable market conditions . At a certain moment, upon the client’s go-ahead, sugar is loaded into railway cars and sent to the final recipient in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan or other countries.
